This week we continued our collaboration with the City of London Corporation to deliver the second of the Active City Network’s Lunchtime Streets events. The events are hosted on temporarily closed busy streets around the borough across 3 days. Our first event was on St Mary’s Axe from Tuesday the 13th of August to Thursday the 15th, and our most recent one is this week from the 3rd of September to the 5th at 12pm-2pm each day on Chancery Lane.

The aim of lunchtime streets is to showcase the benefits of removing motor traffic from a street over a lunchtime period to allow workers and residents to enjoy their lunch in a greener and cleaner environment. This is part of the City of London Corporation's and the Mayor of London's Transport Strategies to make the streets safer and more pleasant for workers and residents of the borough.

For the events we installed temporary Parklets, housing benches and planters, as a space for event goers to sit and enjoy their breaks amongst the entertainment and food and drink stalls at the event. We also provided artificial turf, bistro style tables and chairs, traditional lawn games, as well as some on street planting to create a large green space spanning along the street.

These events are leading up to the mammoth London-wide car free day on the 22nd of September that we will be involved in. The Car Free Day celebration will include 20 kilometres of closed roads around Tower Bridge, London Bridge and the City of London and aim to get Londoners to ‘reimagine’ their city car-free, while walking, cycling and exploring the city. This is all part of the Mayor’s work to encourage Londoners to cycle, walk and use public transport to help improve air pollution and reduce car emissions
