We’re delighted to announce that Hammersmith Business Improvement District and Live West Ealing Steer both picked up the coveted awards at this years International Healthy Streets Summit in Glasgow.
Hammersmith Business Improvement
The aim of the Hammersmith BLEN is to address air quality by changing business, employee, visitor and resident habits for the long-term and improving the health of the local population. The creation of a new usable public realm acts as a focus for the community around the issue of air quality. Measures including “Plants not Pollution” signage and community events have raised awareness, educated and encouraged a modal shift amongst all stakeholders.
As part of the project Meristem designed, installed and maintained 4 Parklets, 250 LM of Green Screens along the Hammersmith Roundabout and the Greening of the underpass under the A4 Fly over.
Live West Ealing, Steer
The Live West Ealing scheme will transform a community of over 6,000 homes, addressing a number of current issues to achieve the Council’s vision for West Ealing, which is: “Support a resilient, prosperous and healthy neighbourhood where residents and workers feel safe and more likely to make sustainable travel choices”.
As part of this project Meristem designed and installed a series of Parklets that moved around the West Ealing community to promote healthy streets.
The healthy streets approach puts people and their health at the forefront of decisions about design, management and use of public spaces. The goal is to improve the street air quality, by enabling people to walk and cycle for their everyday journeys. Showcasing the best of the best political leaders, policy, projects and programmes which help work towards healthier streets. A common theme throughout the conference was if you design for the ‘most vulnerable’, you design for everyone.
Our Director, Habib Khan presented about On-Street Parklets and encouraging modal shift from cars to people, at the Summit. His presentation highlighted how Parklets provide a dynamic space for the community and help improve the quality of the streets.
