4 Hammersmith Parklets Launched this week!

This week we launched 4 of our new community Parklets on Hammersmith Grove, 2 of them even had 3m high Green Pergolas.

Combining trees and plants with wooden benches and cycle parking, these 4 10m by 2.5m Parklets are designed to encourage cycling, improve air quality and make the street greener for residents, shoppers and businesses. They’re also part of a borough-wide plan to support and encourage biodiversity in the area.

Marylebone Car Free Street Party

Over a hundred school children from Halcyon School enjoyed some amazing BMX skills, a bicycle smoothie and music powered by pedals during Marylebone car free day, hosted by Marylebone LEN and Sustrans.

The focus of the day was sustainability, air quality, helping the locals reclaim the street and to encourage cycling and walking.

We were delighted our Parklet was well used and helped turn the grey street to green. The day promoted social interaction, while showing what you can do with the absence of cars.

Are you planning a car free event or want to hire our Parklet for the day? Call us!

Petrol and diesel cars set to be banned in East London. Do you agree?

We were happy to see our Parklet and tree planters featuring in the Evening Standards article  on Ultra Low Emission Zones. http://bit.ly/2nvrGyC

Petrol and diesel cars are set to be banned in parts of east London under plans that could see motorists fined more than £100 for breaking the rules. Hackney and Islington councils are consulting on a scheme to ban petrol, diesel and older hybrid vehicles from entering nine streets in Hoxton and Shoreditch.

Pedestrians and cyclists would have access to the zones, in addition to ultra-low emission vehicles including electric cars, e-bikes, the newest hybrids and hydrogen vehicles.

It is hoped the plans will bring reduced levels of air and noise pollution and improved surroundings for local residents and businesses.

Fingers crossed this means more urban greening!

Westminster gets it's first On-Road Parklet

Marleybone is one of London's newest Low Emission Network and as part of it's 3 year plan they intend to install a number of Parklet across their neighbourhood to encourage a model shift from cars to pedestrians and to make the streets more welcoming to visitors and locals.

In order to test out the concept they approached Meristem to install one of our Parklet on Car Free Day on the 22nd September.  The feedback we received from residents and students at the University of Westminster during the trial was overwhelmingly positive.

Mersitem Parklet arrive's at TfL's Palestra Offices

As everyone knows Parklets are popping up all across London, so when TfL wanted to commission a Parklet for their own Head Office Palestra we were delighted they chose Meristem Design as their preferred partner.

The Parklet was installed on the 25th September to coincide with the Mayors Transport Strategy open day at Palestra attended by TfL and GLA employees to provide feedback on the consultation so far.

TfL is also hoping the Parklet in the reception which will be seen by all visitors to the offices to create debate and to generate interest for more of them on our streets.
