Project overview
Partnering with Barnet Council, we helped introduce vibrant greenery to junction by a busy high street in the borough to create a cleaner and more inviting space for all people passing through. The collaboration came about as the neglected area had become a hotspot for fly-tipping and antisocial behaviour with the project acting as a deterrence measure to these behaviours.

Goal
The project’s main aim was to transform the underused space to create a more inviting public realm with new planters and greenery. With the location being popular with fly-tippers, the addition of the planters intended to introduce a psychological deterrence by replacing the area with a valuable community asset.

Scope
The scheme took place on a stretch of pavement on Cool Oak Lane that connects a residential space to the busy junction and high street at West Hendon Broadway in Barnet. We designed and installed 2 large-scale bespoke corten steel planters to accommodate 35m2 of biodiverse planting, built around existing access and electrical infrastructure.

Solutions
Our approach was tailored to the site and needs of the council. The planters addressed the pressing issue of fly-tipping and anti-social behaviour while creating a greener, more pleasant residential side street adjacent to the high street.
