Project overview
We worked with Westminster City Council to enhance this canalside space with increased greenery, improved accessibility, and richer biodiversity. As part of the council’s North Paddington Canalside regeneration programme, designed by LDA Design and funded by the Greater London Authority’s Good Growth Fund, we led on the planting scheme to elevate the public experience and create a more welcoming, attractive environment.

Goal
The goal of the project was to transform the canalside into a greener, more accessible and ecologically rich space that people will want to spend time in, creating an environment that feels inviting, supports biodiversity, and strengthens the connection between the canal and the surrounding community.

Scope
The canalside space is located opposite Queen’s Park Library along Harrow Road, an area with a mix of cafés and local businesses that create high footfall throughout the day.
Our work covered the design, fabrication, installation, and maintenance of the project. The scheme included four planting beds, 4,000 plants, 12,000 bulbs, and a range of interactive features, all installed over a five-day period.
This project forms part of the wider North Paddington Canalside regeneration programme, which aims to improve the banks of the Grand Union Canal and create a more welcoming and accessible space for the local community.

Solutions
The project focused on delivering the planting scheme for the Queen’s Park Canalside transformation, helping to shape a greener, more welcoming and accessible space. Working alongside the wider design, our planting frames key features such as walkways, slopes and seating areas, while supporting biodiversity and year-round interest.
- Early spring bulbs, including Camassia, Leucojum, Narcissus and Tulipa create vibrance and support pollinators in the space after winter passes.
- Summer and autumn-flowering perennials such as Aster and Rudbeckia add texture and movement to the canalside, helping to expand the structure that the evergreen shrubbery provides through colder seasons.
