Project overview
As part of Sadiq Khan’s initiative to reduce pollution in London’s most affected areas, Prior Weston Primary School in Barbican was the first school audited for air quality improvements. The project aimed to protect children from toxic air by introducing green infrastructure.

Goal
To reduce children’s exposure to pollution by implementing effective green solutions in the school’s outdoor areas.
Scope
- Installation of 48m of ivy green screens along the playground fence.
- Custom-built planters made from sleepers with integrated seating.
- Automatic drip-line irrigation system for low-maintenance care.
- Planned expansion with an additional 70m of ivy screens in Phase 2.
Solutions
The green screens provide a natural barrier against pollution, improving air quality while adding greenery to an urban setting. Planters with built-in seating maximize space functionality, while the automated irrigation ensures low-maintenance upkeep.
