Project overview

We designed and installed a living wall for a residential properties courtyard garden to help the owner connect with nature and enhance their open space.

Goal

Our client Shelley was looking to install a living wall in her garden that is overlooked by her kitchen and conservatory.

Scope

A tailored living wall that we have designed using our own lightweight system made from galvanised, recycled steel troughs which are easy to install and will stand the test of time.

Solutions

Our living wall designer Nina Simoes worked with Shelley to develop a design that included plants she had personally requested such as Vinca minor blue and Fragaria vesca Strawberry. The wall has also been mounted with a gap between the system and brickwork to eliminate any chance of water ingress or leachate on the wall.

As someone with green fingers herself, there were already very well-kept areas of the garden to the front of the property. The courtyard is a sheltered area with brickwork and fencing to either side with a few pots to be found elsewhere.

Impact

Everyone was thrilled at the end result and Shelley could now enjoy her morning coffee while gazing out at a verdant wall, reconnecting with nature right in her urban setting.

The living wall also helps boost biodiversity, improves air quality and can help reduce noise.
