Project overview
Even the smallest outdoor space can be transformed into a thriving vertical garden. This recent residential living wall project at Sussex Mews replaced a glass wall on a roof terrace, introducing privacy, biodiversity, and aesthetic charm. Designed as a focal point, the installation merges beauty with functionality, supporting local wildlife and enhancing the overall environment.
This project highlights the incredible adaptability of living walls, proving that any space—no matter how small—can be a canvas for greenery.

Goal
To create a visually striking yet low-maintenance living wall that offers privacy, promotes biodiversity, and serves as an evergreen feature throughout the year.
Scope
The project encompassed the design, installation, and planting of a bespoke living wall, featuring over 500 carefully selected evergreen and perennial plants.
Challenges
With limited space on the compact roof terrace, this required a space-efficient yet impactful design, ensuring the wall’s weight and irrigation system were suitable for the terrace structure.

Solutions
Our team selected a plant palette that was designed for year-round visual appeal. A curated mix of Lavandula angustifolia, Pachysandra terminalis, Convolvulus cneorum, and Erysimum Bowles Mauve provide texture, colour, and pollinator-friendly benefits. By installing smart irrigation, the automated system can support plant health while minimising water waste creating a sustainable maintenance delivery. Through the use of evergreen and perennial plants, this ensured continuous greenery and seasonal variation for year-round interest.

Impact
This project demonstrates how even compact spaces can become lush green sanctuaries.
