We were asked to design and install a ‘green oasis’ in the reception area of this office building in central London. We were delighted that the client went ahead with our proposal. The installation included a 50sqm living wall which houses over 2000 plants, 5 freestanding potted plants and a large indoor planter with tropical plants. All 2000 plants were pre-planted at our workshop in Sevenoaks and grown on, to ensure that from day 1 the living wall was fully established. This also significantly reduced the number of days spent on site and the plants were much happier being delivered to the site once the construction had finished and the dusty environment was a thing of the past.

The plants chosen in this scheme were chosen on the basis that they help create a jungle-like environment and are also hardy enough to ensure the longevity of the project.

Horticultural lighting has also been specified to provide supplementary lighting to aid plant growth. Within 6 weeks of the installation, many of the plants were already flowering which is a sure sign that they are enjoying the environment.

Following on from this successful first phase we were asked to return and ‘green up’ all 5 floors of the building. A range of large tropical plants in natural pots have been installed to tie in each floor of the building with the reception area. 3-metre strelitzia Nicolai, commonly known as the wild banana or giant white bird of paradise has been positioned in the atrium to create a striking impact. These plants thrive in light conditions although prefer not to be in direct sunlight, perfect for the environment in the atrium.

Our team visits the site every 2 weeks to carry out a comprehensive maintenance service to care for the 2000+ plants.
