Project overview
Ark Franklin Primary Academy and Ark Walworth Academy encompasses over 450 meters of lush green screens featuring ivy (Hedera helix ‘Woerner’ supplied by Mobilane) and jasmine, alongside sensory planting, planters, benches, living walls, and more. The greening initiative has transformed the school environments, providing students with a vibrant and engaging connection to nature.
These projects form part of our long-term partnership with Ark schools across London.
Goal
The primary goal of this project was to create a greener, healthier, and more inspiring outdoor space for students and staff. By integrating nature into the school’s urban environment, we aimed to reduce air pollution from the nearby busy roads, promote outdoor learning, and foster a sense of wellbeing.
Scope
For the Academies, we delivered and installed; 350m of perimeter green screens, 2 living walls, hardwood planters, ivy tunnel and sensory plant beds at Ark Franklin and 150m of perimeter green screens for Ark Walworth.
Solutions
By integrating nature into the schools’ urban environments we delivered:
Pollution Mitigation
The installation of dense green screens around the perimeter serves as a natural barrier to absorb pollutants.
Efficient Design
Combining greening elements like sensory beds, living walls, and planters maximised the available space while creating functional and aesthetic features.
Sustainable Irrigation
A CAT 5 break tank and pump system ensures consistent and efficient watering of all planted features.
Nature-Centric Learning
The outdoor learning area and sensory planting were designed to inspire exploration, creativity, and relaxation for the students.
