Project overview

Meristem Design partnered with eOffice to integrate biophilic design at their Tottenham Court Road and Holborn co-working spaces. The project enhances workplace wellness by introducing lush, green elements that create a calming environment.

Goal

The goal of the project was to enhance workplace wellness by introducing nature-inspired design elements that create a calming and vibrant environment for both individuals and teams working in shared office spaces. By integrating lush greenery into these co-working hubs, the design aimed to provide a refreshing and stress-reducing atmosphere that supports both creativity and productivity.

Scope

Meristem Design implemented a series of plant installations across the two eOffice locations, maximising the potential for greenery within compact urban spaces. The design strategy included ceiling-mounted planters, wall-mounted installations, and custom “Live Pictures” featuring integrated watering systems for low-maintenance greenery displays.

Solutions

With the challenge of limited space, we utilised ceiling and wall-mounted planters to maximise the number of plants and create a visually captivating green workspace. Recognising that pot plants can often go unnoticed amidst the hustle and bustle of occupied office spaces, the decision to raise the plants towards the ceiling ensures their prominence and creates a striking visual impact. These versatile planters, with the ability to hook onto one another, allow for the creation of vertical pillars of greenery or singular baskets of natural beauty. To complement the hanging effect, a mix of trailing plants such as ferns, Epipremnum aureums, philodendrons, and aeschynanthus were carefully selected, adding an element of depth and texture to the overall design.

A standout feature of eOffice Co-working’s office greening project is the installation of Live Pictures filled with Boston Ferns. The Live Picture, available in various sizes, offers a unique and visually stunning way to incorporate plants into the workspace. This innovative design integrates a watering system within the frame, ensuring the plants receive adequate hydration for a period of four to six weeks. The Live Picture not only adds a touch of botanical elegance but also serves as a focal point, creating a tranquil and refreshing atmosphere for co-workers to thrive in.

Impact

The integration of biophilic design principles within eOffice Co-working’s space fosters a profound connection to nature and promotes a sense of well-being among its occupants. The strategic use of indoor plants, nature-inspired design elements, and greenery in the office creates a harmonious and inviting atmosphere, conducive to concentration, creativity, and productivity. The presence of natural elements helps reduce stress, enhance mood, and improve air quality, ensuring that co-workers feel refreshed and energised throughout their workday.

eOffice Co-working’s office greening project goes beyond aesthetics and well-being; it also exemplifies a commitment to sustainable office design. By incorporating green elements into the workspace, eOffice demonstrates its dedication to creating an eco-friendly and sustainable workplace. The use of ceiling and wall-mounted planters optimises space utilisation and reduces the environmental footprint. Additionally, the Live Pictures’ integrated watering system minimises water consumption, making it an efficient and environmentally conscious choice.

eOffice Co-working’s office greening project in Tottenham Court Road exemplifies the transformative power of nature-inspired design and indoor plants in creating a sustainable and harmonious workspace. By embracing biophilic principles and incorporating green elements, eOffice has successfully established a green oasis that nurtures productivity, well-being, and environmental consciousness. This case study serves as an inspiration for organisations seeking to enhance their workspaces through office greening, ensuring a healthier, more enjoyable, and ultimately more successful work environment.
