The project aimed to enhance and mobilise the borough’s goal of creating healthier spaces for both nature and people. By designing a custom parklet for the space, the goal was to bring to create a community space for residents and local businesses to use while supporting the wider greening of Harrow.

The parklet measured 7m x 1.8m and featured benches, bistro-style seating and green integration. Located on the corner of a small shopping parade that features shops, cafes and a local community venue, Oneforty, the parklet was designed to invite wider community use.

We designed a custom parklet for the space to fit the needs of the wider community and reflect Harrow Council’s ongoing greening strategy. Accessibility and safety features were implemented to ensure the project was inclusive and useful to visitors while greenery was also prioritised to create a more visual and welcoming space. Some of the plants used in the project include:

• Liriope muscari
• Salvia nemorosa caradonna
• Brachyglotis compacta
• Hebe Mrs Winder
• Rosemary prostratus

The parklet has delivered benefits to the residential space by brightening up the area, creating greater community space and filling in a previously grey, hard gap in the streetscape. The planting brings additional environmental boosts in a number of ways.
