Project overview

The Meristem Design team helped transform this long-neglected garden into a welcoming space for the residents to enjoy. We incorporated a range of new plants and trees, re-shaped and resurfaced the garden and introduced a comfortable seating area in the residence. Though the changes are small, we made a big difference and will be looking after the space from 2026 onwards, adding seasonal touches to keep it looking fresh and full of personality.

Goal

The aim of this project was to revitalise the residential space, making it safer, more inviting and pleasant to spend time in. As the space was overgrown and neglected, the goal was to use small, simple interventions to transform the garden but also keep it as flexible as possible so that changes can continue to be added to suit the resident’s vision and keep the space looking fresh.

Scope

The project consisted of multiple steps to improve the garden space including, ground levelling, the formation of a path, a fence, planting and the installation of 3 new trees. Garden furniture was later added to the space.

Solutions

The design for the garden was simple yet powerful. Measures were first taken to revitalise the ground, soil and layout of the garden to prepare it for the additional features. Shrubs and trees were vital to the planting plan and included:

Trees:

  • Pear conference
  • Apple discovery

Shrubs:

  • Choysia terata
  • Hydrangea pieris
  • Forest flame
  • Geranium dreamland

Installing a New Fence

Including a fence in the design created subtle zones in the garden for privacy and separation.

Adding Sensory Interest

We included trees and shrubs in the design to add colour, texture and flavour to the garden.

Ground- Level Improvements

The team dug up the soil and spread it to re-level the space. The path, herbal garden, seating area and fencing path were then mapped out to create a more cohesive and intentional garden.

Regular Maintenance

Our team make regular visits to the site to add seasonal touches and keep planting looking fresh and full of life.

Impact

The design, installation process and maintenance of this project has created a much more welcoming and healthy garden area. The new features make the space feel seasonally interesting and encourage the client to spend more time outdoors.

Safer and Efficient Access

The re-levelling of the soil and additional pathways make the space much easier and more inviting to use.

New Harvesting Opportunities

The addition of the apple and pear trees give an additional layer of interest to the garden, providing the opportunity for the resident to pick and use the fruits.

Increased Comfort and Privacy

The fence and furniture features help to build a comfortable space with subtle zones and separation.

A Healthier Environment

New shrubs, trees, greenery and amenity features combine to create an immersive space that encourages positive wellbeing.
