Project overview
Meristem completed the installation of a vibrant new living wall at a private property in North London to revitalise the urban space. This project marks the first stage of an extensive garden design initiative we are currently developing for our client.
Goal
The motivation behind this living wall stemmed from the construction of a brick wall by a neighbouring property. Rather than facing a plain, empty wall, our client desired a dynamic and visually appealing alternative for their home.
Scope
Reaching over 7sqm, we installed a lush living wall featuring over 250 plants carefully selected for colour, texture and resilience.
Solutions
The stylish green feature was designed to work within the constraints of a small outdoor space. Our expert team finely balanced aesthetic goals with the practical demands of maintaining a diverse plant selection in a small, sun-exposed area.
The wall includes hardy species like Convolvulus cneorum, Erysimum ‘Bowles’s Mauve’, and Pachysandra terminalis. These were selected for visual diversity and adaptability, supporting a self-sustaining ecosystem with minimal upkeep.
Impact
By transforming a plain brick wall into an ecologically rich and visually engaging feature, we’ve helped enhance the property’s aesthetic and environmental value.
The living wall adds greenery to the urban landscape, improves air quality, and serves as a mini-habitat for pollinators. It also demonstrates how green infrastructure can integrate with residential spaces, offering beauty and ecological benefits.
