The project aimed to transform underused roadside space into attractive rain gardens that help control surface water runoff rates and enhance biodiversity. Alongside the environmental benefits, the scheme also planned to engage the local community by involving nearby schools in the formation of the landscape.

The project delivered nine roadside rain gardens comprising of over 150m2 of planting and 1100 plants. The works also included the installation of three bee posts and four Habistack features from our urban greening add-ons range. Planting workshops with the local school kids were carried out using the rain gardens in the closest proximity to the schools.

Our approach combined SuDS, biodiverse planting and habitat creation to deliver a multifunctional streetscape that benefits both people and wildlife.

The completed schemes has transformed Torriano Avenue into a greener, more biodiverse streetscape that combines environmental benefits with community involvement.
