It was great attending the Climate Resilient Streets conference on Wednesday 3rd June and chatting with people from across the industry about how we can make our towns and cities greener, safer and healthier in the face of climate change.

Our Director, Habib, delivered a presentation on urban greening funding and maintenance, exploring funding opportunities, the role of SuDS and the importance of long-term stewardship and community involvement in successful green infrastructure projects.

We hosted a walking tour

Alongside Waltham Forest Council and What if: Projects, we also hosted a rainy walking tour of our rain garden schemes along Forest Road and Sutherland Road. The tour gave delegates the opportunity to see sustainable drainage and urban greening in action, and explore how these projects are helping to manage surface water, increase biodiversity and improve the public realm. Well done to those of you who braved the rain!

Some key stats from the walking tour included:

Sutherland Road:

Almost 500m of rain gardens
3,000 drought-tolerant plants
68 new street trees

Forest Road:

Over 600m of rain gardens
Over 10,000 plants
30 new street trees

The walking tour highlighted how targeted green infrastructure can deliver multiple benefits, from flood resilience and biodiversity to creating more attractive and enjoyable streets.
