Temporary green installations can have a long-term impact when they are thoughtfully repurposed. Rather than allowing planting and materials to go to waste after short-term events, relocating and re-installing plants into permanent public spaces can help maximise their environmental and social value to an area.
From RHS Chelsea Flower Show...
In May this year, we collaborated with Mobilane to install a series of jasmine green screens at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show to create a green walkway through the event entrance. Designed to soften the space and improve the visitor experience, the screens brought planting, vertical greenery and a sensory experience to the event.
However, the installation was only required for the short duration of the show, so we began looking for a permanent location where the green screens could continue to provide value and benefits to people passing through.

The jasmine screens were then relocated to Harrow town centre where they line a key pedestrian route through a dense urban space that connects the high street to the central bus station. The area previously lacked greenery, visual interest and suffered from lower air quality, and was therefore much in need of revitalisation.
The jasmine screens were placed into 16 corten steel planters that already existed along the street but had been undervalued. By introducing the new jasmine screens, the route has been refreshed with healthier vertical planting that helps to create a more pleasant route for passers-through while contributing towards cleaner air.

Why jasmine?
Mobilane's jasmine screens are particularly effective within urban settings due to their dense coverage, seasonal flowering and visual impact. It is a climbing plant that helps soften landscapes by adding green coverage while contributing to biodiversity and improving the overall green scope of public spaces. The vertical aspect of the screens helps to build out a sensory corridor for the popular pedestrian route.
As the planting establishes further, the screens will continue to develop into a greener, more attractive space for the community and pollinators.
