Concert Hall Approach Custom Planters

Greening iconic London hotspots: Custom planters for South Bank

We partnered with LDA Design and Lambeth Council to transform the iconic Southbank, making it greener, safer and more accessible for locals, tourists and passers-through. The project builds on our previous work along Belvedere Road to join up the green corridor through the space and acts as part of Lambeth Council’s continuous efforts to support active travel and biodiversity in the borough. We designed and delivered a range of custom planters to support the scheme.

To complement the street changes Lambeth had already made to the area, we helped bring greenery and biodiversity to the space through fabricating custom planters that also function as seating, creating welcoming spots for people to rest, gather, and enjoy the environment.

Integrated Greenery with Seating

Designed and installed 24 large-scale planters along Concert Hall Approach, which were then fitted with seating features to provide rest areas for pedestrians while simultaneously increasing green coverage.

Enhanced Biodiversity

Selected and planted hardy and pollinator-friendly species in the planters to support local wildlife and contribute to Lambeth’s wider biodiversity goals.

Improved Safety and Accessibility

Strategically positioned planters help to define pedestrian areas and create a safer, more navigable streetscape for all users.

Custom Design and Flexibility

Delivered bespoke planter designs ranging from 2.7m–3m that now accommodate seating and plants, ensuring durability and adaptability for long-term use along the road.

The Southbank planters transformed Concert Hall Approach into a greener, more welcoming space for everyone. They improved biodiversity, encouraged active travel, and created places for people to rest, connect, and enjoy their surroundings.

Increased Green Space

The installation of 24 planters added a significant amount of greenery to Concert Hall Approach, enhancing the visual appeal of the area and contributing to Lambeth’s overall green corridor strategy.

Boosted Biodiversity

By planting pollinator-friendly species, the project supports local wildlife by creating habitats for insects and birds.

Enhanced Pedestrian Experience

The area has been completely pedestrianised. The combined effect of seating, greenery and new walkways has made the streetscape more inviting, encouraging walking, resting and social interaction.

An Active Community

Our efforts combined with the council's installation of a new zebra crossing and pedestrian spaces encourage walking and cycling by making the spaces safer and more pleasant to do so.
