Hammond Street and Islip Street Rain Gardens, Camden

Creating healthier streets in Camden: Rain Gardens for Hammond and Islip Street

As part of the London Borough of Camden’s Healthy School Streets initiative, Meristem Design transformed temporary Low Traffic Neighbourhood (LTN) planters into permanent Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS) rain gardens at Hammond Street and Islip Street. Covering more than 55m², the scheme introduced over 400 plants, creating attractive green infrastructure that improves biodiversity, manages surface water and enhances the public realm around local schools.

Designed to be both functional and engaging, the rain gardens incorporate playful stepping stones, encouraging interaction while creating healthier, greener streets for residents, pupils and visitors.
