Project overview

We brought greenery to a sleek office in central London for a forward-thinking team looking to improve its open-plan space with natural elements. The project focused on creating spacial division without harsh barriers, introducing biodiversity and enhancing the environment to create an office that’s more welcoming, calming and visually appealing.

Goal

The aim of this project was to transform the office space into a more comfortable and uplifting environment for the team by using plants to define areas, support wellbeing and enrich the experience of being in the workplace.

Scope

The project involved delivering a planting scheme for an office in Central London, incorporating living plant features across all spaces in the open-plan office. The planting height varied and featured a mix of floor-standing, wall-mounted, and desk-level planting to enhance the workspace’s visual appeal and environmental quality.

Challenges

The open-plan design of the office meant that collaboration was efficient and therefore fitting large green features into the space would be disruptive to this flow. Some meeting rooms felt uninspiring and lacked greenery, requiring quite a significant aesthetic uplift to align with the company’s eco-conscious vision.

Solutions

To address these challenges, we developed a tailored plant design strategy that introduced natural elements in a way that complemented the office’s open layout and elevated its overall atmosphere. Our approach focused on integrating greenery thoughtfully across key areas of the office to enhance visual appeal, improve air quality, and create spatial definition without interrupting the collaborative flow. Some of the plants used throughout the workplace include:

  • Ficus Lyrata – A striking statement plant that adds height and presence.
  • Dracaena Lemon Surprise – Known for its air-filtering properties and vibrant foliage.
  • Strelitzia Nicolai – Brings a lush, tropical feel to the office while acting as a natural screen.
  • Schefflera ‘Nora’ – A dense, multi-stemmed plant ideal for softening spaces between desks.
  • Codiaeum Variegatum (Croton) – Adds vibrant color with its variegated leaves.
  • Monstera Deliciosa – A popular choice for modern offices, adding texture and visual appeal.
  • Ficus Cyathistipula – A robust, low-maintenance plant that thrives indoors.

Green Space Dividers

Curated clusters of tall and medium plants were used to define work zones. This preserved a balance between the openness and collaborative flow of the office.

Living Picture Frames

Live picture frames were installed in meeting rooms to introduce natural texture and improve the atmosphere without occupying floor space.

Desk and Lounge Enhancements

Smaller potted plants were added to workstations and communal areas to create a cohesive biophilic feel throughout the space.

Air-purifying Plant Selection

Species were chosen for their aesthetic qualities as well as their ability to enhance indoor air quality, contributing to a healthier work environment.

The introduction of thoughtfully placed greenery transformed the workspace into a more uplifting and functional environment. Employees experienced noticeable improvements in comfort and focus, while the refreshed design strengthened the office’s modern, eco-driven identity. The overall atmosphere became more inviting, balanced, and aligned with the company’s values.

Enhanced Wellbeing

Staff reported feeling more relaxed and energised in a space enriched with natural elements.

Improved Air Quality

Air-purifying plant species helped reduce fatigue and create a fresher indoor environment.

Defined Yet Open Spaces

Plant clusters subtly create different work zones without compromising the collaborative nature of the open-plan layout.

Enhanced Aesthetics and Brand Image

The added greenery elevated the visual appeal of the office, reinforcing a sophisticated and sustainability-focused brand image.
